The council of Dupont is comprised of seven elected officials. Elections are staggered every two years, with four and then three council members elected. Council elects a President who presides over meetings, and oversees the everyday running of the boro. Council also elects a Vice- President, who in the absence of the President, takes over the duties of President. These two positions are voted on, during the very first meeting of each and every new year. Ann Marie O'Malley is the president of council and Bernie Babonis is the Vice-President. Since elected back in 1990, Ann Marie has held the position of coucil president. Ann Marie owns and operates her own beauty salon, located at the corner of Lincoln and Ziegler Streets. Bernard (Bernie) Babonis is Vice-President of coucil. Before his retirement, he was employed by the Luzerne County Courthouse, located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Bernie heads up the community service project in Dupont, on Saturdays, and Sundays. Bernie is also very active in Dupont's Fire Department. Edward Strucke, owns several apartment complexes within the boro's boundaries, and has been a member of coucil since 1990. Ron Kuna, works for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Association, and has been a councilman since early 1992 when elected. Stanley Golembewski, who works for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, was elected to council in 1994. Stanley is one of the top vote getters during elections that he is running in. Matthew (Matt) Szumski, works for the Pittston Area school system, and owns and operates his own barber shop, notary, and insurance business located on Main Street in Dupont. Joseph (Joe) Timiniski, a previous councilman, is now back after an absence of one term. Joe brings his previous experience as a councilman back to better serve the citizens of Dupont.
