Remembering Dupont
Here are some pictures from the past of Dupont

The Laurel Line Railroad. Picture here shows the Laurel Line crossing by the Pittston By-Pass bridge. An interesting
note here. This overpass was mentioned in Ripley's Believe it or Not, as the only overpass containing five individual
bridges.

Train station located on the western border of Dupont.

Main Street looking east from the railroad tracks, near the now present Pittston By Pass.

This is a picture of the old Muncipal building, located across the street from the VFW. It was replaced by the now
present day borough building located at 600 Chestnut Street.
The above three pictures are of Francis's Lottery, when it use to be a service station. Francis's Lottery is located at
289 Main Street, Dupont. The first picture appears to be taken in the 30's or 40's, then second one, probably in the
50's, and the third one was taken in 1968, and the last one is the present day Francis's Lottery Agency.

The above photos are of Joe Goula, who is now employed by the boro of Dupont, on the road crew.
The above photos are from the flood of 1996. In January of
1996, the streams overflowed their banks, due to a warm up, and excessive rains. The first three pictures are of Main
Street, and the fourth picture is of Quality Row which runs behind the boro building.
This is the old squad car 25-2. Office John Mecca was operating this vehicle when it caught fire. He managed to get the vehicle off the main raod and into a vacant parking lot, then escape the vehicle, call for help, without being injured himself. You can see from the extent of the damage inside the vehicle, that had he not escaped the vehicle, he would of suffered severe burns or maybe even lost his life in the fire.
If you have any other pictures, reflecting the borough of Dupont, from the past, I would appreciate a copy of them. If you
have no way of making copies of them, please contact me, as I can scan them, and give the orginals back to you.
