The Road Crew are personell hired by the individual boro's
to perform the daily functions that are required for every
day running of the boro.
Refuse, recycling, and yard waste are collected during
the week, as well as regular road maintenance.
Refuse collection is performed on Monday's, unless a
holiday also falls on Monday then it is collected on
Tuesday.
Yard Waste is collected on Tuesday's unless Monday
is a holiday, then it is pushed over to Thursday.
Wednesday is recycling day, with Co-Mingle on
the first and third weeks of the month, and paper,
cardboard, and magazines on the second and fourth
weeks. If there is a fifth week, there is no recycling
in the boro.
RULES FOR REFUSE:
You must belong to the system, to have your
refuse picked up by the boro. You must purchase
a window sticker and blue bags from the boro, and
have the sticker in a visible area, easily seen by the
road crew. Bags must be placed at curbside the
night before collection.
If you do not have your bags at curbside prior to
collection, you will have to hold your refuse until
the next collection day. Expecting the road crew
to return to pick up your refuse would increase
the cost of this service, and put the crew behind
schedule. Do not ask the road crew to break these
rules, as they are set by council, and the crew is
expected to carry those rules out to the best of
their ability. Infractions of rules results in dis-
planary action, and could result in the
employee being fired. Also do not insert glass
items in refuse bags. Glass breaks and
could injure a worker. Please put glass in
a separate container.
YARD WASTE:

Rules for yard waste are simple. Put out
the night before. Don't use plastic bags, or
recycling containers. Cut limbs and bushes
in lengths of three foot or shorter, tie
into bundles. Also weight of containers
should not be over thirty pounds, as the
road crew must lift the container over
the side of the truck to empty them. If
they are to heavy then they will be left
at curbside untill they are lightened
enough for the crew to lift up.
RECYCLING:

Recycling is performed on Wednesday of each
week. Use the containers supplied by the boro.
Paper should be tied or placed in brown paper
bags, and not be put loose inside the container.
Cardboard should be bundled and cut small
enough to fit in the truck. Magazines should be
tied or placed in brown paper bags also.
Do not mix your mags with the paper, as the
road crew will not sort your recyclables. They
will leave them at curb side untill you do.
CoMingle should be rinsed out before they
are placed at curbside. Failure to do so will
result in them being left at curbside also.
STREET REPAIRS:

Street repair is performed during the summer
months. Thursdays and Fridays are set
aside for this purpose. Minor repairs, pot
holes, crack sealing, and street cleaning,
are performed by the road crew.
Storm drains, park maintenance, and
the boro grounds are also the sole
responsiblity of the road crew.
SNOW PLOWING?
During snows, the boro road crew will
be plowing the streets. Rules for plowing
are: The operator will plow the snow
from center to curb. That means that
the plow operator will start at the
closest estimation possible, of the
center of the street and tilt the plow
at an angle toward the closest curb.
At the end of the street, he turns
around, and does the same thing on
the other side of the street, and
continues doing so untill he has the
snow plowed as close to the curb
as possible.
If you have a side walk, do not hurry
out and try to get it shoveled before
the plows finish up your street.
If you do, the plow will still plow your
street, and you will have to once
again, shovel your walks off. If you
do not want to have to re-shovel
your walks, then wait untill the plows
finish up your street.
If you shovel your walks and then ask
the operator to skip your part of the
street, once again they are under
orders to plow curb to curb, and
they are not allowed to skip any part
of the street for any reason.
If you are a senior citizen, and hire
your walks cleaned by another person,
once again, do not allow them to work
untill after the plows are through.
If you have a car parked on the street
and do not wish it to be plowed in with
snow, then you should make sure
that it is not on the street when the plow
comes through. There is an ordinance
that states when three or more inches falls,
cars on the even side of the road must be
moved off that side of the street, and on
the second day after the storm, cars on
the odd side must be moved off, so that
the plows can clean the entire street
curb to curb. Failure to move the cars in
this fashion, may result in your car
being towed away. These measures were
taken by council, to insure the safe
travel of all people throughout the boro.
